ksu excellence in actionOverview

Our mission is to prepare highly effective higher education administrators and staff professionals who possess the skills and competencies required to meet the varied challenges facing two-year, four-year, and graduate institutions and communities today, and to help shape our institutions in the future.

Our program includes over 100 students working toward master’s, education specialist, and doctoral degrees; five program faculty; and over 700 alumni.

Students complete coursework in the areas of college student development, organization and administration of higher education, student affairs, law, employment law, leadership, research, administration of multiculturalism and diversity, and business administration. Electives include topics such as curriculum, women in leadership, the private liberal arts college, history of higher education, international students, college environments, case studies, community and junior colleges, faculty, disability services, politics and power, distance and continuing education, interpersonal and group dynamics, assessment and evaluation, and comparative higher education.

Graduate assistantships and practica are completed at Kent State and at many nearby colleges and universities. With the rich diversity of higher education institutions in Northeast Ohio, students may choose to gain experience in settings public and private, large and small, and with a wide variety of missions and cultures.
